Cromane 1-7 Valentia 0-10
Valentia were visitors to Cromane on Sunday last and both teams played out an exciting draw. The cross field wind spoiled the game at times. Valentia were first to score with a pointed free from John Shannahan and a point from play by Muiris O’Sullivan. Gary McGrath had the sides level within minutes when he converted a free and dropped a point over from play for Cromane. Valentia went into a 2 point lead with 2 long range points into the wind but Gary McGrath again had the sides level by the 20th minute when he kicked another point from play aswell as a converted free. Valentia took the lead with a point from play from Alan Curran but the sides were once again level after a pointed free from Gary McGrath after he was fouled himself. Then came the only goal of the game from the boot of Gary McGrath after a great Cromane move. Valentia had the last score of the half with a point from play by Muiris O’Sullivan which left the half time score Cromane 1-4 Valentia 0-6.
In the 2nd half Cromane extended their lead to 3 points with 2 points a converted 21 m free and a point from play both from Gary McGrath. Valentia had a great chance of a goal but the shot went straight across the goal mouth but went narrowly wide. Valentia then had 2 points from John Shannahan one from a free and one from play to leave 1 point between the sides. Valentia then drew level with a point from a free from John Shannhan, Cromane had 2 great goal chances but were stopped in their tracks by the Valentia goal keeper and went wide. Valentia took a one point lead with a point from play from John Shannahan but in the dying minutes Cromane were awarded a 21m free which was topped over by Gary McGrath to leave the sides level at full time. Gary McGrath was the only scorer for Cromane on the day.
